RO System: Hello, friends welcome to The Bong Guruji. Here we discuss what is RO system and also talk about the full RO purification process and talk about how does RO filters work.
What is RO System
RO means Reverse Osmosis. It is a purification process in which water is passed through a high-pressure pump through a membrane to eliminate the total dissolved solids (TDS) of the water that may not be visible to the human eye. It is actually used to remove the microorganisms and total dissolved solids (TDS) present in water such as bacteria, viruses, sediments, carbon, harmful chemicals, pesticides.
How Does RO Filters Work
In case of an RO water purifier, the water is passed through several stages or filtered and then taken as drinking water.
- First water is sent through a filter attached to the outside of the purifier, it is called the Pre Filter or iron guard. This is actually used to remove all the large solids that are in the water. This filter actually helps to increase membrane life.
- Then the water passed through a sediment filter and the activated carbon filter. Those filters help to remove sediments and chlorine that could clog or damage the RO membrane.
- Then the water is divided into two pipes one goes to the RO membrane and one goes to the UF filter. The only reason to do this divination process is that the water is purified from a membrane is not healthy water, because the membrane eliminates the total dissolved solids (TDS) of the water such as bad particles like harmful chemicals, viruses, bacteria, and good particles like minerals.
- Then the purified water from the membrane and the UF go to the TDS controller to adjust the TDS level of the drinking water. And wastage water is drained out from the filter.
- The water is passed through a UV chamber or UV filter. It helps in disinfecting bacteria from the water by killing all the harmful pathogens present in the water. Then we can drink the water.
Filters Used in a RO Filter
- Sediment Filter: It is also known as a pre-filter. It helps in removing larger particles from the raw water like sand silt, dirt, and other sediments from water. These pre-filters help to increase membrane life.
- Activated Carbon Filter: The activated carbon filter helps in removing all kinds of impurities and harmful chemicals.
- Ultrafiltration(UF): It’s a hollow type of fiber membrane, like the root of a tree. It helps to remove impurities from the water.
- UV Filter: The UV filter kills all the harmful pathogens present in the water. The power of UV rays destroys all kinds of microorganisms by attacking their genetic core.
Advantages of RO Filters
-
RO water purifier is the best water purifier for purifying hard water.
-
It can remove all kinds of impurities like mercury, arsenic, chlorine, fluoride, which is not good for our health.
-
It can filter all kinds of water like lakes, rivers, and public supply water.
Disadvantages of RO Filters
- The main disadvantage of a RO water purifier is, it removes all kinds of natural minerals such as iron, magnesium, calcium, and sodium which are essential for our health.
- RO water purifier takes a too long time to purify the water.
- RO water purifier removes all lines of natural minerals, for this reason, the pure water becomes tasteless.
- In this process, many glasses of water are drained as wastewater.
RO System Applications
- Power & Energy
- Hospital
- Agriculture
- Food & Beverage Industry
- Boiler Feed
- Disaster Relief
- Wastewater Treatment Plants
